# Script tools

The script cover, the Chinese and American formats, Focus and Side by side modes, version history, and exporting scripts.

## Script cover

In the script editor, you can switch to **Cover** to add basic information about the script. Filling it in helps you quickly sort out the key relationships in the story, and helps other collaborators understand what the script is about.

The script cover includes:

- **Script title**: Enter the name of the work.
- **Writer**: Enter the name of the script's writer.
- **Logline**: Sum up the core of the story in one sentence, with the main character, their goal, and the conflict.

## Chinese and American formats

Moodio lets you switch between **Chinese format** and **American format**.

The main difference between the two formats is **how the script is laid out and how its content is organized**. After you switch, the script's content is shown in that format.

### Chinese format

The Chinese format usually organizes content the way Chinese readers expect, so it suits people who are used to writing scripts in the Chinese style.

### American format

The American format has a more standardized layout: each kind of content usually has a fixed position and format.

For example:

- **Scene**: States where and when the scene takes place.
- **Action**: Describes the actions and events on screen.
- **Character**: Names the character who is speaking.
- **Dialogue**: Records what the character says.
- **Parenthetical**: Adds the character's state or manner as they speak.
- **Transition**: States how one scene changes to the next.

### Which one should you choose?

If you mainly write in Chinese and are more used to reading scripts in the Chinese style, choose the Chinese format.

If you want to write in the Hollywood script format that is common in the film and TV industry, choose the American format.

The two formats mainly change how the script is displayed and laid out, so choose the one that fits the way you work.

## Focus and Side by side modes

To suit different ways of editing a script, Moodio offers two modes: **Side by side** and **Focus**.

### Side by side mode

Use it when you want to see other related content while you edit the script.

When you need to refer to the synopsis, character details, or other documents, use Side by side mode to place them next to the script you are working on.

For example, refer to the character bios while you revise a character's dialogue, or compare the plot with the synopsis while you adjust it.

### Focus mode

Focus mode keeps other content from distracting you in the editing area, so you can concentrate on writing the script.

When you want to read, revise, or polish the script without interruption, switch to Focus mode so you can stay focused on editing.

## Version history

While you edit, you can choose an earlier version to view in the version list on the left, and restore the script to any earlier version. You can also save several versions and compare them side by side.

In the version list on the left, choose the version you want to view.

To restore a version:

1. In the version list on the left, choose the version you want to restore.
2. Check that the content shown is the version you want to restore.
3. Click **Restore** to restore the script to that version.

## Export scripts

You can export a single document or several at once in common script formats, and take your script into professional software such as Final Draft.
