Editing and export

Editing

After you approve the videos you need on the Create tab, they appear in the Media pool on the Editing tab. There you can choose the videos to put on the timeline and fine-tune them.

Editing covers the whole process, from importing media and arranging tracks to adjusting the picture, sound, and text. You can add media from different sources to the timeline, build your video by trimming, splitting, and combining tracks, and then adjust the look of the picture, the audio effects, and the style of subtitles and text.

Put videos on tracks

Add the selected videos to a track on the timeline to start editing. The Media pool at the top right of the Editing tab shows every video approved in Create, and you can also add media from Assets and My uploads as you need it.

Whether your media comes from the canvas, your assets, or your own uploads, you can add it whenever you need it while you edit.

  • Add videos approved on the canvas
  • Choose media from Assets
  • Choose or upload media in My uploads

Timeline tools

If you only want to keep part of a clip, you can trim it:

  • Split at playhead: Split a clip into several separate clips
  • Trim start

Cuts away the part of the selected clip to the left of the playhead and keeps the part to its right. Use it to quickly remove waiting, setup, or anything else you don't need at the start of a video, so the clip starts on the key shot.

  • Trim end

Cuts away the part of the selected clip to the right of the playhead and keeps the part to its left. Use it to remove empty or extra footage at the end of a video, so the clip ends at the right moment.

  • Drag a clip's edge to change its length

Drag the front or back end of a video clip on the timeline to change where the clip starts and ends, which changes how much of it stays in the final video.

  • Delete clip: Delete the clips you don't need

Add multiple tracks

You can add picture, audio, subtitle, and text tracks to keep different kinds of content on separate layers, and arrange and align them on the same timeline. Editing on multiple tracks makes it easier to organize how the picture, sound, and text relate to each other.

  • Picture tracks

Place and arrange video clips here. With several picture tracks, you can set how different shots relate in time and, together with size and position adjustments, build up layered pictures.

  • Audio tracks

Arrange sound, so you can edit the audio separately from the picture. You can time the sound to the rhythm of the video, and set its volume and fades separately.

  • Subtitle tracks

Add and arrange subtitles so they appear at the right time, carrying dialogue, narration, or extra explanation along with the video.

  • Text tracks

Add titles, key points, and other text. Text is arranged independently of the video and subtitles, which makes it easy to control when and how each piece of information is shown.

Adjust video

Select a video clip on the timeline to adjust its size and position, or to rotate and flip it.

Once a video is selected, you can adjust the picture's size, position, orientation, and playback speed, so the footage better fits the composition and pace of your video.

Adjust size

Enlarge or shrink the video picture to change how big it appears on the canvas. Use it to bring out what matters in the shot, or to leave room for subtitles, titles, and other elements in the picture.

Adjust position

Move the video on the canvas to place the subject where the content needs it and improve the overall composition.

Rotate and flip

  • Rotate: Change the angle of the video picture, to correct its orientation or to get a particular composition.
  • Flip: Reverse the direction the picture faces, for a mirror image or to suit your layout.

Change video speed

Change a video's playback speed to make a clip faster or slower.

  • Speed up: The video gets shorter and the pace picks up.
  • Slow down: The video gets longer, giving key moments more time on screen.

Changing the speed changes how long a clip plays, so you can combine it with your timeline arrangement to fine-tune how the picture works with the sound and subtitles.

Add and adjust audio

You can adjust the volume, set fades, and separate audio from video, so the sound follows the rhythm of the picture and can also be edited on its own.

Adjust the volume

Change how loud the audio plays, to bring out the main sound or turn down supporting sounds as the content needs.

For example, you can lower the background sound so dialogue or narration is clearer, or even out the volume between clips to avoid jarring jumps.

Fade in and out

  • Fade in: The sound rises gradually at the start, so it comes in more naturally.
  • Fade out: The sound falls away gradually at the end, so it doesn't stop abruptly.

Fades suit the beginning and end of music, and they also smooth the transition between different sound clips.

Edit subtitles and text

You can add subtitles and text, and adjust their words, style, size, and position, so the information in your video comes across more clearly and looks more consistent.

Add subtitles

Add subtitles to a video to show dialogue, narration, or supporting notes. Use a subtitle track to set when each subtitle appears, so the words match the video.

Add text

Add titles, chapter names, key points, or other explanatory text to the picture, to help viewers quickly understand the video and pick out key information.

Edit the words

Change the words in subtitles and text, to fix the wording, add an explanation, or make it shorter.

Adjust text style and size

Adjust the text style and font size to suit the content's hierarchy and the look of the picture.

  • Titles: Use a bolder style and larger size to make the subject stand out.
  • Subtitles: Size them to fit the space in the picture so they stay easy to read.
  • Supporting notes: Keep them a level below the main information, so the picture doesn't get too crowded.

Adjust text position

Drag subtitles and text, or change their X and Y values, to set where they appear on the canvas.
